Vampire Diaries Season 1,
Episode 1
Pilot
Thursday nights on CW
-my weekly segment for Vampire Diaries Challenge and Helluva Halloween
Synopsis from TV Guide:
In the series opener, Virginia high-schooler Elena (Nina Dobrev) falls for a new student (Paul Wesley), who is actually a centuries-old vampire struggling to live peacefully among humans. Their budding relationship is threatened when his evil vampire brother arrives in town and tries to capture Elena's heart for himself.
My thoughts:
I have just begun reading this book series by L. J. Smith, so am new to the storyline. From the tv show it's looking kinda like a love triangle with a twist. The twist being that vampires are involved.
The show starts with the main character Elena writing in her diary which reminded me strongly of Liz writing in her journal in the pilot of the Roswell tv series (a past show I loved). The interesting thing with diaries is that Elena's budding love interest, Stefan - vampire dude, also keeps a diary - diaries. Hence, the title connection?
I like the musical selection for the show. It's hip and happening creating the right vibe for the show. If I continue to watch the show, I probably be turned on to some new bands.
The appearance of the mist, the crow, and Damon - another vampire dude surprised me. Being an Ian Somerhalder fan from his days in Young Americans and Lost, I did not like him as a baddie. He played his part well being the evil brother - only too well. I'm hoping he comes around to the "good side" (keeping fingers crossed).
Looking forward to what next week brings.
Extra tidbit:
Ian Somerhalder Interview ( full article )
Excerpt:
Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, a 170-year-old vampire who follows his brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley), to Mystic Falls, their small Pacific Northwest hometown. Stefan is there to woo Elena (Nina Dobrev), a young woman who resembles his late wife; Damon is mostly just there to torture Stefan. “Damon’s just lonely, bored and pissed off,” the actor says. Why is Damon so angry? The premiere episode indicates that there is bad blood (heh) between the brothers for some unmentioned past transgression; specifically, Damon promises Stefan “an eternity of misery.” “For someone to say that to another person, they must have done something really horrible, something to warrant that kind of promise,” he says. “Those things are fun to find out,” he teases.
Are you watching this show? and what did you think?
