Vampire Diaries s1.14: Fool Me Once

Vampire Diaries
Episode 14
Fool Me Once
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan, Damon, Elena and Bonnie attempt to open the mysterious tomb that they believe has confined Katherine for the past 145 years and are surprised by what they discover. Meanwhile, Jeremy and Anna agree to meet in the woods for a party, but he doesn't know she has an ulterior motive for coming.

My thoughts:
The episode starts off with vampire Ben sleeping in a chair, Elena sleeping in a hotel bed, and Bonnie sleeping in a bathtub. I've always found the bathtub to be a funny sleeping location. Can't be a comfortable place.

Matt and Caroline - aren't they just the cutest couple. I love the sweetness between them.

Jasmine Guy is just the best witchy Grams!

What a creepy tomb and creepy old aged vamps inside. ick! so unglamorous.

And, so where is Katherine?

Amusing quote(s):
Admit it, you can't wait to get rid of me.
-Damon
I can't wait to get rid of you.
-Stefan

BLOOD - word of the night
So, I took the time to listen to the commmercial. CWbayarea.com is holding a contest to win $1000 if you submit the designated word. Contest or no, the word of the night is pretty fun. Wonder what the next one will be.

Boo, hoo. The next new episode will be aired March 25.

Vampire Diaries s1.13: Children of the Damned

Vampire Diaries
Episode 13
Children of the Damned
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan and Damon recall the events that resulted in their broken relationship; Bonnie goes on a date with Ben, but it ends badly; Elena searches for a missing journal that belonged to an ancestor; Damon learns that a former acquaintance is in town.

My thoughts:
Another deliciously delectable episode where the secret word of the night was BITE. Although, what that has to do with anything I don't know because I did not feel like going to the computer to type in the url listed at the commercial break. So, I must be missing out on a fabulous giveaway prize like a visit from the Salvatore brothers?

This episode had more historical background info. Looooved the costumes and seeing a more innocent Damon. Gosh darn! Katherine was/ is such a baddie.

A-ha, we see Anna as she was.

We meet Pearl. She's the one in red in the picture above.

We meet Jonathan Gilbert.

Back in the present, we find out about Alaric's vampire hunter tendencies and of his Isabel who was studying paranormal activity. But the mystery remains as to how she was connected to Damon.

Amusing quotes:
And that's how it's done.
-Katherine (with bloodied mouth and sharp teeth flashing in the dark) to Damon after a lesson in vampire attacks

Vampire Diaries s1.12: Unpleasantville

Vampire Diaries
Episode 12
Unpleasantville
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan and Damon attempt to learn the identity of a new vampire who arrives in town, and they accompany Elena to a school dance with a 1950s theme. Meanwhile, Matt begins working at the Mystic Grill to earn extra cash.

My quick bits:
Loooooved the 50s dance sequences! The makeup and costumes for this episode really made this episode a fun one.

Isabel-1 = Elena's "real" Mom

Isabel-2 = Alaric's wife

Isabel-1 = Isabel-2 ???

Awww, just when I was thinking Anna was a cute gal for Jeremy...

I coudn't find a picture of the actual vampire compass pocket watch to post here but I came across this instead...

The Sundial, Compass, Gunpowder Flask
at Brass Goggles

Super cool all-in-one, eh?

- it could possibly have a vampire compass reader in a secret compartment

Amusing quotes:
I am sorry it won't help you with your diabolical plan - the sequel.
-Stefan to Damon

Vampire Diaries s1.11: Bloodlines

Vampire Diaries
Episode 11
Bloodlines
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Damon rescues Elena from a car accident and takes her to Georgia. While there, he surprises an old flame (Gina Torres), but he's confronted by someone who attempts to make him pay for past wrongdoings. Meanwhile, Bonnie fears she is losing her powers, and Jeremy meets a cute girl (Malese Jow) who believes vampires are present in Mystic Falls.

My quick bits:
We get to see both sides of Damon in this episode. The very good and the very bad. I'm confused about him.

I'm sticking with Team Stefan ;-D

I'm liking the Jeremy storyline which is the exploration and research into his family's past and the connection with vampire mythology of Mystic Falls.

ooooooo, intesting big reveal about Elena in this episode.

So now that we have the mystery behind Emily's Amber necklace solved, another mystery is presented to us... Emily's Grimoire (textbook of magic) - where is it and does it hold the secret to open the tomb?

Amusing quote:
Listen up everybody.
Here's to the man who
broke my heart
crushed my life
and ruined all my chances for happiness.
-Bree (toasting to Damon)

Gina Torres was witch, Bree.
I loved her in Firefly.

Vampire Diaries s1.10: The Turning Point

Vampire Diaries
Episode 10
The Turning Point
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Damon learns another vampire is in town when a body drained of its blood is discovered, and he searches for the person. Meanwhile, Elena confesses her love for Stefan and persuades him to stay in Mystic Falls, but she also makes a devastating discovery that adversely affects her relationship with him; and Jeremy resumes a hobby of drawing fantasy creatures that he had abandoned after his parents died.

My quick bits:

Good for Jenna - she did not let the vampires into the house (unbeknownst).

And who ends up reading vampire diaries by family relative? -->Elena's brother

I say steampunk. The vampire compass indicator is definitely steamy!

Something I've been wondering. Maybe I have to go back and watch some past episodes, but why doesn't the vervain have the same effect on Stefan like it does with Damon? If it did he shouldn't he be really weak everytime he got near Elena?

Amusing quote:

We could try out for the Amazing Race.
-Damon

Vampire Diaries s1.9: History Repeating

Vampire Diaries
Episode 9
History Repeating
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Damon reveals to Stefan the actual reason why he returned to Mystic Falls and the news stuns Stefan. Meanwhile, Bonnie is disturbed by terrifying dreams about one of her ancestors, and she and Caroline hold a séance. And Jeremy introduces his new history teacher to his aunt Jenna.

My quick bits:

Artsy episode where we get a dream within a dream sequence.

It's the boomerang necklace! And, we finally learn that the gem on the witch necklace is an amber crystal.

We get a new myster character, Alaric Saltzman, as written on the chalkboard.

OK, getting tired of the constant breakup and reuniting of Stefan and Elena. urg.

Great vampire brother bonding moments.

Amusing quote:

Get your hands dirty and make it sing. (about writing)

Vampire Diaries s1.8: 162 Candles

Vampire Diaries
Episode 8
162 Candles
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
An old friend (Arielle Kebbel) visits Stefan on his birthday and she gives Elena some insight into dating him. Meanwhile, Caroline attempts to get Damon's medallion back from Bonnie, and Damon offers to help Sheriff Forbes, which leads to tragedy.

My quick bits:

There seemed to be more goth-like and dark scenes.

Neat-o to see that Lexi was stronger than Damon.

The locket continues to dazzle us with its protection spell.

LOL - when Carolyn tried to do a grab and go with the locket and she got zapped she asked

Are you wearing polyester?

So with all the kissing scenes we've seen with Stefan and Elena, we don't get a birthday kiss.

Amusing quote:

Am I shallow?
I want to be an abyss, deep.
Oh, I'm a kiddie pool. a kiddie pool.

-Carolyn

Vampire Diaries s1.7: Haunted

Vampire Diaries
Episode 7
Haunted
Thursday night on CW

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Damon is surprised by Bonnie's psychic abilities when he attempts to take back a necklace she's wearing that belongs to him. Meanwhile, Matt takes Vicki to the school's Halloween haunted house to cheer her up, but events turn truly terrifying.

My quick bits:

This one left me wondering what are Damon's true motives?

He has been bad, yet ultimately in the end helps Elena.

Jasmine Guy's appearance and reveal of being a witch was a treat. We get a brief history of Bonnie's witchy background and learn more about the locket.

Team Stefan scores when Elena admits that she doesn't want to forget anything about her latest experiences because of how she feels about Stefan.

And, poor Vickie - it was coming though. Her fate.

Vampire Diaries s1.6

Vampire Diaries
Episode 6
Lost Girls
Thursday night on CW

-my weekly vampire eye-candy segment

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan reveals his family's history to Elena and how his rivalry with Damon began. Meanwhile, Damon tries to take control of Vicki's life, but she runs away, and the sheriff and mayor take action to protect Mystic Falls from further violence.

My thoughts:
I liked the flashback into the history of the trio, Katherine-Stefan-Damon. Now we know about Katherine and her ways. But my question is how is Elena connected? Is she Katherine reincarnated or just Stefan and Damon's will-a-be lover going to be turned into a vampiress to join them for eternal loving?

Vampire Diaries: The Awakening by L. J. Smith

The Vampire Diaries:
The Awakening
by L. J. Smith

Published: 2009
Genre: Romance, Vampire
Paperback: 272 pages
Rating: 4

A deadly love triangle

Elena: beautiful and popular, the girl who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, desperately trying to resist his desire for Elena . . . for her own good.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him.

Elena finds herself drawn to both brothers . . . who will she choose?

Description from widipedia:
The first volume of the series introduces the reader to Elena Gilbert a popular and beautiful high school student in Fell's Church, Virginia and her best friends Bonnie and Matt. A former childhood friend, Caroline, is also introduced and revealed to be Elena's antagonist. As their senior year at Robert E. Lee High School begins, Elena meets and becomes involved with a mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore. As Elena and Stefan fall in love, strange attacks begin to happen in the town and Elena discovers that Stefan has a dark secret—he is a centuries-old vampire. Soon after Elena and Stefan meet, another charismatic stranger later revealed to be Stefan's estranged elder brother, Damon Salvatore, begins to make appearances. The reader learns that the brothers both fell in love with a young vampire named Katherine in Renaissance Italy. Fueled with rage at Katherine's refusal to choose one brother over the other and her subsequent suicide, Stefan and Damon kill each other in a sword fight. They are interred in the family crypt but soon awaken as vampires, at which point they part ways until they encounter each other once more at the beginning of the novel. The Awakening ends with Elena seeking out Damon, whom she believes to be the prime suspect in Stefan's disappearance after the townspeople begin to suspect him for being behind numerous violent animal attacks and the recent murder of the high school's subst history teacher.

My thoughts:
In-a-word: selfish

Finally, finally finished reading this. It was tough going while watching the TV series. The book has a different feel with characters that don't totally match up with the TV series characters. I read the book with this cover and found that it just does not match the innards. The cover with Stefan below is a better fit. The cover posted above with the crow works too, but has a xmas-sy feel to it. Anyhoo if you'd like to have my copy, let me know in comments below.

At first I did not like how this story was going mainly because I had the TV version warring with it in my head. But, as I continued the read I began to get into the story and accept the book characters as they are.

The story does have a different take on a vampire love story. An unusual love triangle where the girl/woman has the upper hand.

The book ends with a cliffhanger so I must read book 2 to continue the story. The big question I have is what is the connection between Katherine and Elena other than their appearance? You can say that this story also fits into the Mystery genre.

Interesting European folklore (from Scotland?):

One of the characters mentions a way to find out who your future spouse by way of old ritual called the Dumb Supper. You create a place setting at dining room table with one plate, one glass, and one set of silverware without uttering a word. Then you light a single candle in a candleholder in the center of the table and position yourself behind the chair with the place setting.

According to Bonnie, on the stroke of midnight she was supposed to pull the chair back and invite her future husband in. At that point, the candle would blow out and she would see a ghostly figure in the chair.

Vampire Diaries s1.5

Vampire Diaries
Episode 5
You're Undead to Me
Thursday night on CW

-my weekly vampire eye-candy segment

-for my Vampire Diaries challenge and Helluva Halloween

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan reveals part of his past to Elena, who later hears a disturbing story about the Salvatore family from a stranger. Meanwhile, Bonnie seeks advice from her grandmother (Jasmine Guy) about psychic abilities she possesses.

My thoughts:
So, I finally watched this DVR'd episode last night. Had to before tonight's ep, ya know.

The hubby walked by, sat on the couch and watched a few minutes. Then he got up and said, "What is this? They're all beautiful and hot looking high school kids. That's not realistic." To which I said, "Yeah, yeah. It's my vampire eye-candy show." And then he walked out of the room to go beddy-bie.

On to the show... heee

Just when I was wondering about the diary writing, we finally get a glimpse of Elena writing. I don't remember much of it last couple episodes. It seemed to take a back seat. But the title of the show is Vampire Diaries. Will we get to peek into Stefan's diaries, soon I hope?

We now know that the superpower day rings are made of lapis lazuli. Love that color of blue. But how about that sparkly crystal that gives off a pentagram-y image? Is it a yellow sapphire or yellow topaz?

With Damon locked up and in a weakened state, we didn't get the snarky remarks and funny one-liners. However, we DID get more Stefan.

He can cook, mmm

especially Italian mmm-mmm

He can make fresh mozarella. mmm-mmm-mmm

He loves garlic!?! huh?

You know the saying... The way to a woman's heart is through her stomach. Well, maybe not every woman. But, yes for me. How about you?

I wonder. When Elena touches and kisses Stefan, isn't he cold to the touch?

Poor Caroline - I think she's such a sweetie. I hate how Damon is using her as a pawn.

Poor Vicki - has she been drained?

ooo, loved the witchy moments. I'm so liking the telling of Bonnie's storyline. And, woo-hoo! Jasmine Guy is in the house!

Great ending. I like how things are moving along.
Quote to note:

Be careful. What you don't know can hurt you. -Elena

Blogosphere bit:

Vulkodlak

In Medieval Europe, people thought that if a werewolf died, (s)he came back as a vampire (aka: vampiric werewolf). East European countries combined werewolves and vampires into one creature called a "Vulkodlak."

Vampire Diaries s1.4

Vampire Diaries
Episode 4
Family Ties
Thursday night on CW

-my weekly vampire eye-candy segment
-for my Vampire Diaries challenge and Helluva Halloween

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan escorts Elena to the town's annual Founder's Party, where Damon tells her a surprising story about his family's past. It prompts Elena to ask Stefan questions he refuses to answer and forces him to take action against his brother.

My thoughts:
We had some fun moments with the reference to Twilight. Poor Twilight, I love that series too. I feel that each vamp series are special in their own ways. No need to bash or compare them.

I actually had a coinkydink moment when Damon references John Varvatos in the knife for knife scene. It so happens that just last night I was standing at a bus kiosk that had an ad of ZZ Top in John Varvatos wear. Previously, I would not have known what or who John Varvatos was.

I'm so glad that the witch world is making an appearance. Bonnie's (Katerina Graham pictured above) flickering candles has got me curious to know what the connection lies with vampires. Friend or foe?

Jewelry plays interesting roles in this series.

- Stefan and Damon's rings - protection from daylight

- Elena's necklace with vervain - protection from Damon's glamour

- Jeremy's inherited pocket watch - protection from vampires? still to be revealed

- Jewel retrieved from the secret compartment of the antique box - properties yet to be revealed

Did I miss any others?

Now what about that ending, eh?

They've come back.

Amusing quotes:

Damon gets all the great lines...

You're dead dude. Get over it. - Damon

It's cool not growing old. I like being the eternal stud. - Damon

Vampire Diaries s1.3

Vampire Diaries
Episode 3
Friday Night Bites
Thursday night on CW

-my weekly segment for my Vampire Diaries challenge and Helluva Halloween

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Stefan joins the football team after an impressive athletic display. Elsewhere, Elena invites Stefan and Bonnie to dinner in hopes that they will bond, but Damon disrupts the evening with an unexpected visit; an act of violence shocks the town.

My thoughts:

I'm still liking this show. It's my vampire candy for the week.

I liked the dinner scene when Stefan tells Bonnie about Salem witches being independent and head strong.

OMG! The slap scene was a show stopper.

Damon continues to be of interest. From the last scene of him and Elena, we see that he has a teeny tiny bit of humanity in him despite his evil display.

Anyone, any time, any place. - Damon

Team Stefan.

Blogosphere bit:

Ian Somerhalder interview with Eonline

Excerpts:

Damon starts out pretty darn evil—is he likely to soften, or is that something he'll stick with for a while?

He sticks with it for a little while. I think that's his thing, and he has such a good time doing it. There are moments where you may see some sort of humanity in him, and there are moments when you may see that he may not be as intense as he appears to be.

The books tell a fairly wide-ranging story. Do you see the TV series falling more on the epic, romance side of things or small-town gothic side of things?

The beautiful thing about Kevin is that he has this ability to mix together a genre, the small-town aspect of it, and take epic romantic aspects of it and then the scary aspect of it, where when you finally settle into your seat or couch a little bit, it pops up and makes you jump. To answer your question, I don't see it in any one given place. I see it as a mixture of all those elements.

Finally started reading my copy of book 1 - The Awakening.

I might be biased because I watched the show before reading the book. But, I love the TV Elena more than the book one. Maybe this will change as I continue reading.

And yes, as everyone has been saying there are differences. But ya know, I don't mind... yet.

Vampire Diaries s1.2

Vampire Diaries
Episode 2
The Night of the Comet
Thursday nights on CW

-my weekly segment for my Vampire Diaries Challenge and Helluva Halloween

Synopsis from TV Guide:
Vicki recovers in the hospital from an attack and begins to remember what happened, but Stefan tries to prevent her from recalling what actually occurred. Meanwhile, Elena meets Damon, who reveals to her some surprising secrets about Stefan's past; and Jeremy struggles with his feelings for Vicki.

My thoughts:

We had a conversation. It was epic.

I must say, I like how the guys vamp-out. The make-up job seems just right and the brief glimpses are effective in spooking me.

I'm so curious to know what is driving Damon. Why does he do what he does? Looking forward to watching his storyline unfold.

The only thing that bugged me is that the kiss was too early. The second episode of the show is way too early. I like a romance that is drawn out a little more. However, I'm still hooked enough to tune in next week.

Still have to read my copy of book 1 - The Awakening.

Vampire Diaries s1.1

Vampire Diaries Season 1,
Episode 1
Pilot
Thursday nights on CW

-my weekly segment for Vampire Diaries Challenge and Helluva Halloween

Synopsis from TV Guide:
In the series opener, Virginia high-schooler Elena (Nina Dobrev) falls for a new student (Paul Wesley), who is actually a centuries-old vampire struggling to live peacefully among humans. Their budding relationship is threatened when his evil vampire brother arrives in town and tries to capture Elena's heart for himself.

My thoughts
:
I have just begun reading this book series by L. J. Smith, so am new to the storyline. From the tv show it's looking kinda like a love triangle with a twist. The twist being that vampires are involved.

The show starts with the main character Elena writing in her diary which reminded me strongly of Liz writing in her journal in the pilot of the Roswell tv series (a past show I loved). The interesting thing with diaries is that Elena's budding love interest, Stefan - vampire dude, also keeps a diary - diaries. Hence, the title connection?

I like the musical selection for the show. It's hip and happening creating the right vibe for the show. If I continue to watch the show, I probably be turned on to some new bands.

The appearance of the mist, the crow, and Damon - another vampire dude surprised me. Being an Ian Somerhalder fan from his days in Young Americans and Lost, I did not like him as a baddie. He played his part well being the evil brother - only too well. I'm hoping he comes around to the "good side" (keeping fingers crossed).

Looking forward to what next week brings.

Extra tidbit:

Ian Somerhalder Interview ( full article )

Excerpt:

Somerhalder plays Damon Salvatore, a 170-year-old vampire who follows his brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley), to Mystic Falls, their small Pacific Northwest hometown. Stefan is there to woo Elena (Nina Dobrev), a young woman who resembles his late wife; Damon is mostly just there to torture Stefan. “Damon’s just lonely, bored and pissed off,” the actor says. Why is Damon so angry? The premiere episode indicates that there is bad blood (heh) between the brothers for some unmentioned past transgression; specifically, Damon promises Stefan “an eternity of misery.” “For someone to say that to another person, they must have done something really horrible, something to warrant that kind of promise,” he says. “Those things are fun to find out,” he teases.
