Guest Picnic Baskets

Guests are now scattered on the lawn with picnic baskets here and there.

Let's take a look inside them...

Lady Alexa Adams of First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice: cucumber sandwiches and pigeon pies

Lady Carol aka buddyt: walnut sandwiches

Lady Meredith of Austenesque Reviews: homemade strawberry lemonade

Lady Midnight Cowgirl of The Fashion Planner: fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, and chocolate cake

Lady Milka of Read.Read.Read: fresh strawberries, cold soda

Lady Nina of J'adore happy endings: strawberries (Yes, I know we can pick them up at Mr. Knigtley's) and just a lot of sweet stuff, like chocolate, cookies and wine... A nice sweet white wine

Lady Rosie: fried chicken with homemade macaroni salad and for dessert a nice light sugar cookie

Lady Wanda: small bottle of wine

Lady Vee - and, my must have picnic basket treat would be: some savory cheese with nice crusty bread and fruit tarts

If you are not listed here, feel free to comment and tell me what is in your basket.

  1. Excuse me. What I meant to say is that as they're missing, I'll bring the pigeon pies.

  2. ooo, pigeon pies is a new one for me. i'll have to look them up. found a yummy recipe here: http://www.theoldfoodie.com/2010/01/pigeon-pies-and-miss-austen.html

For an excellent pigeon-pie for a small family singe and draw three birds, split them down the back, wipe with a clean cloth, but do not wash. Fry half a dozen slices of salt pork and brown the pigeons in the pork-fat. Then put them in a deep baking-dish, slice a small onion, brown in the hot fat and add a pint of stock and a tablespoonful of flour. Stir until slightly thick, then strain over the pigeons. Cover them tightly and cook for two hours in a moderate oven. Remove the cover and replace it with one of pie-crust. Bake until brown.

  3. Honestly, I'm pretty open minded about food but I don't think I could bring myself to actually eat pigeon, one of the creatures I most despise on this Earth. Filthy birds. Nonetheless, the recipe is priceless.
