Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, whose body of work includes dozens of quirky, satirical novels and collections of short stories. He was also a playwright and lyricist.

His work was often dismissed by critics as being lowbrow literature, simply because so much of it is just plain funny, and thus, not Serious Literature.

However, anyone who’s picked up a work by Wodehouse knows just how much mastery he had over the English language, and how skilled he was in devising delightfully preposterous and entertaining plots and predicaments. His family and friends called him Plum.

He had a dapper and elegant style -- he’s also the creator of the character of Bertie Wooster, a wealthy, well-dressed and somewhat hapless but genial dandy to the nth degree.

  1. You know, I sometimes run across copies(reprints I'm sure) of Wodehouse in my used bookstore forays. I'll have to pick one up and give him a read. :)

  2. I've not ready any of his works, though I think I'd like to read some of his playwrights. It is a field I am curious about testing myself.
