The Darkness
by Crystal Connor
Description from the amazon:
Artemisia, a scientist who also practices alchemy, is wealthy beyond imagination. She is one of the founding members of the Skyward Group, a privately funded, secret, research facility conducting experiments that erase what tradition has established as the boundaries separating the realm of man from the realm of God.
Artemisia has everything she wants - money, fame, knowledge and power - except for a child.
Inanna is a powerful and dangerous witch, also wealthy beyond imagination. Her powers are greater and more deadly than any in the long tradition before her. Inanna has everything she wants - money, knowledge and God-like power - except for a child.
The Child has nothing. At three months of age, he knows only what he has experienced through the bars of his locked cage. He has nothing. He doesn't have a mommy. He doesn't have a daddy. He doesn't have a name. The scientists who created him do not handle him, because they know The Child is dangerous.
In The Darkness, Two women clash in a vicious battle that has been fought since the days of King Solomon - the fight over a child. One woman unleashes the nightmarish arsenal of modern science while the other dispatches the weaponries of witchcraft.
And as The Child grows up, his love for one and resentment for the other will change the fate of both these women, forever.
Open to all.

ReplyDeleteI like what she said about Stephen King's influence on her. He makes bad things happen in the light of day, and so does she.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to read her book.
The Darkness started out as a dream! I've read about a few authors that started writing a book because of a dream.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't I have such cool dreams? :/
That she yells at the people in horror movies too :)
ReplyDeleteWhen she answered this:
ReplyDelete" As a dream. I keep a notebook and pen on my nightstand because sometimes I get really good ideas just before I fall asleep and sometimes if I have a super scary dream if I write it down I have control over it and its not so scary anymore. The Darkness wasn't really a scary dream but it woke me up so I started writing about it."
I felt she was talking about me!
I think a lot of people get great ideas on the semi-sleeping stage.
I've lost some but I learned to do the same, keep a notepad.
Of course that means I end up loosing a lot of sleep time writing down everything!

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that the idea of The Darkness originated from a dream, and her favourite author is Octavia E. Butler.

That she stood by her vision of her book even when lots of others thought she should change it and it paid off.

I like the "anti-writer's block" she has.
ReplyDeleteDisturbing but productive I suppose!

The book has great story ( my name is Artemisia) and I like that it has a sequel. It's interesting that the idea of The Darkness started as a dream.
