Zombification:  meteor from outer space

Description from book:
"Over the last several years, the Norwegian cartoonist Jason has proven himself to be a singular talent in international comics, a deadpan minimalist with a line reminiscent of Herge's." --Bookforum

...and Jason emphatically puts the "dead" back into "deadpan" with The Living and the Dead, in which a meteor from outer space causes the deceased to claw their way out of their graves to feast on the living -- wreaking havoc with both civilization and our protagonist's romantic inclinations.

Horror, humor, and romance commingle in this near-silent graphic novelette (seven lines of dialogue total!), which feature as much blood and gore as you could possibly want from a zombie comic, but also a sweet love story and many laughs so dark they edge into the infrared. Bon appetit!

My thoughts:
In-a-word: inevitable

Not much dialogue in this but that's okay. The story works well with the wonderful graphics. The battle of zombies vs. humans plays out. The people are portrayed as dogs and ducks. So, it's not too scary to look at. And, a sweet romance does take place amongst the chaos.

  3. Ha - that looks like fun! I am visiting your blog via Bellezza's Japanese Lit challenge, and have had a blast perusing all your fun zombie stuff. Now I'm off to see how long I'll last after a zombie bite...

  4. Ha! Okay, this is kind of funny and, as you said, not too scary. (Which is good, because I'm a real whimp with the frightening, gory stuff. :)

Re: the cartoonist--is he using "Jason" as a parody, perhaps? Like the Jason of the horror movies??
