It's confirmed. I am nuts. I'm joining another reading challenge. This would by the 5th one for this year.
Details:
Read one work of Japanese origin. It can be literature of course, but don’t feel confined to that. You may choose to read poetry, biographies, short stories or even manga.
My reading list:
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon
Knowing me, I'll probably add a bit more to this list along with some movie-related reviews ;-D
************************************************
Not on my original challenge list:
Tokyo Zombie by Yusaku Hanakuma - my review
Asleep by Banana Yoshimoto - my review
*spotted this challenge on sidebar of Suko's Notebook
Oooh The Pillow Book. I've been wanting to read that--I'll look forward to your review!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen the movie The Pillow Book, with Ewan MacGregor and Vivian Wu? I can't hear about this book without thinking of the movie, even though as far as I know there's no relation between the two. Omg that film broadened my horizons. It's beautiful and strange and haunting and horrifying and... explicit.
This is a great challenge. Must... resist... temptation...
I'm very excited about this challenge! This and the Spice of Life Challenge are my very first challenges.
ReplyDeleteLOL I know how you feel!!!! It happened to me as well. The Pillow Book is on its way to me so... maybe we'll read along!
ReplyDeleteI love Japanese lit, actually (esp Haruki Murakami, difficult as he can be). I really REALLY want to go to Japan.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I gave you an award, so stop by and check it out. :)
Nicole - yes, i've watched the movie pillow book which is inspired by sei shonagan's pillow book. the movie is what prompted me to read sei. gonna watch it again for this challenge. also because ewan is yummy in this ;-D
ReplyDeleteSuko - thanks to you i'm totally turned on to this
gnoegnoe - yay! a fellow pillow book-er.
Misty - you're reminding me. i have murakami in my tbr pile. i'll have to dig it out for this challenge too. and thanks for the award!
I'm doing so many challenges that my sister told me she's sick of reading about them on my blog and I should get back to posting about books.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great challenge! I'll have to live vicariously through you, though, and pick it up later...can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're joining in! The Pillow Book is on my shelf, too. I'm off to add you to the Review Site. Welcome!
