by Ruth Pennebaker
Just released: January 2011
At once a tender and whip-smart read, Women on the Verge depicts a mother, daughter, and grandmother financially forced to live together under one roof:
Joanie is a recently-divorced fiftysomething, shakily re-entering the work force;
Her daughter Caroline is an angry teen in high school, who believes the best way to express herself is with hot pink hair (and “specially” prepared brownies);
Ivy is Joanie’s 78-year-old mother, who has recently taken up shoplifting.
And to top things off, Richard, Joanie's ex-husband, has just announced that his much younger girlfriend is pregnant.

Sounds great! I liked that the author described it as a horror story.

Living with three generations of women can be a horror story. I remember when my grandmother came to live with my mother, brothers and myself. She was suffering from dementia, my mother from depression and we had just moved so I didn't have any friends yet. I was an extreme example of a wallflower. So we had our own kind of horror.
ReplyDeleteWithout humor, how can you get through it?

This books sounds like one of those that most women can relate too. Estpecially the "horror" parts. And how you can live with someone and not have a clue what they are going through. Thanks for a chance to win this book.
