Welcome to the first post for the Harry Potter re-watch party!
Let me start by saying that I love Harry Potter and most things related.
That being said, formal reviews for the movies are pointless because I enjoyed them all!
Tee-hee, so this is a Harry Potter movie love-fest ;-D
Instead, what I will do for the daily posts is pick out one thing (there are sooooooo many to choose from) that caught my fancy while re-watching.
Quickie storyline:
Somewhat ordinary unloved boy finds out he is a wizard when he gets invited to join a Witches and Wizards school on his 11th birthday. And so the story begins of his journey into becoming a hero.
Caught my fancy: Wands
Wand = magical instrument used for conjuring
I was intrigued with the scene in Mr Ollivander's Wand shop at Diagon Alley.
Ollivanders Wand Shop is a wand shop. It is owned by the Ollivander family and it was run by Mr. Ollivander. Ollivanders is known to be one of the finest wand shops in all of Europe. The main shop is located at Diagon Alley, but there is a smaller branch in Hogsmeade. -per Harry Potter Wiki
The idea that a wand selects its owner instead of vice verse is one thing that got me. And, the physical makeup of wands was another fascinating bit.
Take the quiz and find out which wand you are.
Here's me:

I got the same wand as you! The thing that caught my fancy in the first movie was definitely all the sweets Harry buys off the trolley. That is definitely my favourite part of that movie.
ReplyDeleteI got 14'' Holly, Veela hair. The thing that caught my fancy in the first movie was Hagrid's arrival at the cabin where the Dursleys are staying - and also all the Hogwarts letters arriving at the Dursleys' :D
ReplyDeleteYour Result: 8.5" Mahogany, Dragon Heartstring
ReplyDeleteYour wand is surprisingly short, with a sturdy, but not inflexible wood. Dragon Heartstring is a common Ollivander core. Your wand is ideal for Transfiguration.
11" Mahogany, Unicorn Hair
ReplyDeleteYour wand is of average length, with a sturdy, but not inflexible wood. Unicorn Hair is less common than most wand cores (owing to the high probability of being skewered), though easily found at Ollivander's. Your wand is ideal for a Healer.
I got the same wand as well, though the mahogany wand was much higher on your results - that wand came in last for me.
ReplyDeleteShows how good my healing skills are.
12.5" Yew, Dragon Heartstring
ReplyDeleteYour wand is longer than average, with a flexible and long-lasting wood. Dragon Heartstring is a common Ollivander core. Your wand is ideal for jinxes and hexes- Muahaha!
What caught my fancy? Harry's Hogwarts acceptance letters!! I remember waiting for one of those myself:/ Alas, it never arrived.

I guess what caught my fancy was simply the idea of being a wizard and learning what that really meant.
ReplyDeleteWands caught my fancy, of course. :P
ReplyDeleteI got a 12.5" Yew, Dragon Heartstring!
I got: 9" Willow, Phoenix Feather. Your wand is shorter than average, with a light and surprisingly tough wood. Phoenix Feather is rare and powerful; it is also an Ollivander favorite. Your wand is ideal for Charms.
ReplyDeleteI love the wonder and awe the first movie provokes. It is so magical when they are riding in the boats up to Hogwarts.

ReplyDeleteI got a 12.5" Yew, Dragon Heartstring, Cool beans! What caught my fancy is when they first enter the Great Hall and the first thing you notice is the ceiling, love it! I love the deleted scene with Seamus Finnigan and his eyebrows! ^^
ReplyDeleteI've got the same wand as yours! What caught my fancy in this 1st movie were the owls. I'd like so much to have one like Hedwig! =)
ReplyDeleteI absolutly adore Diagon Alley , it's amzing ...that's what i loved first in the movie :)
ReplyDeleteI got "14" Holly, Veela Hair"! Not sure what that means... In the first movie, I loved how the story reminded me of Roald Dahl, especially the "wicked relative, long suffering child" part at the beginning!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of spoilers because I have not read any HP book, nor seen any HP film, but someday I hope to do so.
ReplyDeleteFor those whith curious minds: no I don't live on another planet, I just live in another dimension (I guess).
*Ü*
I got the 11" Mahogany, Unicorn Hair:
ReplyDeleteMy wand is ideal for a healer (well, that sounds about right lol)
Something really cool in the first movie, I loved the multi-dimension train station thing! Wonder how many HP hard-core fans are milling about old train stations just *hoping* it could happen?! hehe
