Whimsical mashup of Alice in Wonderland and Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy. Imagine Alice's adventure down the rabbit hole with a companion - her dad, Mr. Darcy (of Pride and Prejudice). Quite a romp!

Mostly an Alice story that is bookended with scenes of life with the Darcy's (post P&P).

Excerpt:

“Oh, Papa!” shouted Alice frantically, backing into a corner that was quickly filling with her father’s mass. “Where should I go?”

“Just a moment,” he replied, working an arm out the window and one foot up the chimney. “There. I think I can do no more.”

Luckily the little magic bottle had now had its full effect, and he grew no larger. Still, it was a terrible predicament Darcy found himself in, and he wondered quite sincerely how he would ever get out of the room again.

Alice, seeing his height stabilized, climbed onto her father’s enormous chest and sat down upon it, looking terribly unhappy. “It was much pleasanter at home,” she lamented, “where one is not always growing larger and smaller!”

“Or being ordered about by mice and rabbits,” Darcy added with perfect empathy.

“I almost wish we had never gone down that rabbit hole!” she continued.

“Almost! Good Lord, Alice! This entire episode has been an unmitigated disaster.”

“Well, it is rather curious, you know, living this sort of life.”

“Curious indeed!” he snorted, causing a strong enough gust to raise Alice’s hair.

“Papa! Papa! The most wondrous thing has happened!”

Fitzwilliam Darcy stifled the indulgent smile threatening his lips. “Alice, please recall our many conversations on manners.”

The little girl who had so unceremoniously burst into his office instantly checked her advance, freezing in place like a statue. Slowly she began to move, creeping her way backwards until she was again outside the door, upon the frame of which she knocked.

The smile could no longer be retained. “Can I help you, Alice?”

She returned it with one full of mischief. “How can you know it is me, Papa?”

Bennet, who sat on the opposite side of the massive mahogany desk, a mirror image of his father at the same age, rolled his eyes. “What is wrong with that child?” he muttered, incurring a quelling glance from his father.

“I can see you, my dear. The door is open. You may come in.”

“No, I cannot. There is a troll guarding a drawbridge, and one must have a password if one wishes to proceed,” she explained.

The story starts out innocently enough. Catherine is taking a walk in the gardens of Northanger Abbey. She stops to admire the unnamed statue. When she turns she is witness to one of the most epic battles between the Shrubbery and Garden Trolls.

Shrubbery branches and leaves fly into the air as the Garden Trolls hack away.


The Gnomes of the patio and Pink Flamingoes of the front lawn join in the fray.

Oh, dear!

Will Mr Henry Tilney arrive in time to save Catherine from this nightmare?

My two bits:

Imagine a world where you have your very own tea robot. Serves you tea as scheduled. How about a world where what is now your hand-held Blackberry is now a full-sized robot that is constantly by your side?

Eeek! is what I say. Of course, your bot can be turned off (surceased) when private moments are required.

I must admit this was my first meeting with Anna. I meant to read the original. But alas, time is not on my side with certain reads.

Wasn't sure how the read was going to fly. Surprisingly it went swimmingly and not as tedious as I thought this classic would be. Maybe it was the robots. Maybe it is because there are missing text?

Hansel and Gretel Mashup

Hansel and Gretel and Brains

Once upon a time a very poor woodcutter lived in a tiny cottage in the forest with his two children, Hansel and Gretel. His second wife often ill-treated the children and was forever nagging the woodcutter.

"There is not enough food in the house for us all. There are too many mouths to feed! We must get rid of the two brats," she declared. And she kept on trying to persuade her husband to abandon his children in the forest.

"Take them miles from home, so far that they can never find their way back! Maybe someone will find them and give them a home."

... so the original tale goes ...

But what if...

The woodcutter and his children walked deep into the forest.

The woodcutter was full of anxiety over what his wife wanted him to do that he did not hear the moans and groans emanating from the dark woods around them.

Hansel and Gretel were worried about whether or not their father, the woodcutter, would actually follow through with abandoning them in the forest that they too were distracted from hearing the unusual sounds.

The family did not know that their world was in the midst of a zombopocalypse.

Three undead creatures burst through from the bushes and lunged at the woodcutter who tried to fight them off.

But was unsuccessful.

Hansel and Gretel were caught by one of the zombie creatures.

Being young, quick and agile they were able to wriggle out of its hold.

BUT to Gretel's dismay, she received a bite on her arm.

Hansel and Gretel scurried away as fast as they could.

So starts the story of Hansel and Gretel and Brainsssssssssssssssssssss...
