First sentence(s):
My mother had two placentas and I was living off both of them.
Foxcatcher meets The Art of Fielding, Stephen Florida follows a college wrestler in his senior season, when every practice, every match, is a step closer to greatness and a step further from sanity. Profane, manic, and tipping into the uncanny, it's a story of loneliness, obsession, and the drive to leave a mark.
My two-bits:
This coming of age story flavored with a college wrestling angle is raw and ugly. An unlikable character moves this story on the path of his obsession to reach his wrestling stardom. His quirks and choices drives us along the way to the very end. And then, what does it all mean?
* part of Tournament of Books 2018 which started yesterday! Unfortunately, Stephen Florida did not win the pre-game round. BUT, it may come into play again during the zombie round. (details)
