I haven't read this series by Cynthia Voigt.

Tillerman Cycle
The Tillerman Cycle follows the struggles of the eponymous family, beginning with Homecoming, in which one generation of Tillerman children is abandoned by their mother. The young four-some must find their way to their estranged grandmother, under the leadership of thirteen year old Dicey, the eldest sibling and main character of the series. Three of the books are, however, centered on other characters--The Runner follows Dicey's uncle, Bullet. Come a Stranger and A Solitary Blue cover some of the same territory as Dicey's Song from the perspectives of Mina and Jeff, respectively, who are two of Dicey's friends. Throughout Voigt's novels, she taps into the emotional aspects of the struggles of the Tillerman children, as well as the other protagonists of her novels, making the Tillerman cycle a series of books appropriate for all ages.

Oh my, I haven't gone to the library in over a month. I've been visiting the bookstore instead. Ack, not good on the pocketbook.

What's tough too is that the books I want require being on a waiting list. Then when the book is finally available I don't have time to pick it up or time to read it because I'm in the middle of another book.

Uh-huh. This is always something to think about. I always try to remember to label my posts properly so that I can find them later. Then I create a link specifically to that label if it is an ongoing subject matter.

i.e. anything Jane Austen related is tagged as Everything Austen and my sidebar has that name and link to all those posts.

My thoughts:
In-a-word(s): it takes two, baby

No flowery or long descriptive paragraphs here. The text is short and (not) sweet. Yes, I'm talking the writing style. It is quite different than the norm. Hey, similar to how I write. ;-D

If you are a Dexter fan or familiar with the premise, then you'll appreciate this story even more.

Like in the Dexter tv series, you get pulled into a relationship with a killer and begin to sympathize with him and his situation. Ugh, you don't wanna but you do.

Although there's murder involved, the mystery lies elsewhere. The murders become secondary in importance as you try to puzzle out Milo's mystery.

L&L: "Only Milo" is really a commentary on the literary industry. Did you write from personal experience, research or is it strictly your own opinions?

Barry: Mainly my own opinions. In the academic world, I did have research data “stolen” by two of my Ph.D. program professors and received no credit when it was published. But most of Milo’s views were created during the writing process.

It should be obvious that the best writing is not often what gets published or read. Fame, wealth, celebrity and scandal are far more important factors and I think that is a commentary on society as much as it is on the literary industry.
