Stacking the Shelves - 7.2.16

Stacking the Shelves
hosted by Tynga's Reviews (details)

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

If you’re an avid reader, one thing is for certain: if you only shop the “bestseller” lists, you’re going to miss many of the best stories. That’s why we work hard to bring you the gems: well-written, immersive stories that transport you, give you thrills, and tug at your heartstrings. The books that are truly worth reading.

Director/Writer: Alex Gibney
Starring: politicians, CIA, NSA
-Documentary | imdb | my rating: 5

Adresses obvious potential blowback of this possibly being deployed against the US by Iran in retaliation.

=====> Along with the family love focus, this story also gets you thinking of perseverance and achieving goals despite disabilities.

-Comedy, Drama, Music | imdb | my rating: 4

Get Jiro!
Blood & Sushi
by Anthony Bourdain, Joel Rose, Alé Garza
-Graphic Novel, Food
Amazon | Goodreads

Acclaimed chef, writer and television personality, Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose (Kill The Poor) return for the follow-up to their #1 New York Times bestseller GET JIRO from Vertigo.

In GET JIRO: BLOOD AND SUSHI, Bourdain and Rose examine the origins of the mysterious Jiro and what made him into the chef he has become. Born the heir to a Yakuza crime family, Jiro never longed to travel the criminal path laid out before him, but instead chose to secretly study the rich culinary history of his homeland, something that would have significant repercussions if discovered by his gangster father.

As Jiro's interest in the culinary arts deepens, his ability to keep his artistic and criminal worlds seperate becomes too great, triggering a great personal loss that will forever change Jiro's path.

=====> Just started getting into Anthony Bourdain for food and travel and found this gem. Now, I need to get book one in this.

  1. Great haul! I'm looking forward to reading Modern Lovers and Truly Madly Guilty. Happy reading!
    My STS

  2. I just saw a review for A Woman in Cabin 10 and for Britt-Marie that had me putting them on my wish list. They sounded really good. The box is neat. I like that they pick obscure books for you to try.

  3. So excited you are participating in the Sweet Progress Summer Box Swap!

  4. Thank for stopping by my June Pick-up Post ( I've thought about doing the book of the month boxes before, but always seem to come across way too many books on my own. Yet there is something about getting a new book in the mail each month that just sounds enticing.
