Description from author site:
Mieradome, revolves around a young girl named Amavia, who believes she is a human girl, but slowly comes to find she is a faery in the world of Mieradome.

Amavia's mother, Anastasica, had taken her out of the faery realm and hidden her away here in our human realm, so that she may be protected from her parents' past mistakes.

But that was not enough, the forces that be found Amavia, and brought her back into the cosmos of the Grandmother Tree. There she meets other faeries, goblins, Telkar dragons, and Utopisols.

Slowly who Amavia really was began to unravel to show the truth. The truth, that she just may be the evil they need to destroy.

Amusing tidbit:
Interview with Kate excerpt from Chick Lit Teens:

Which one of your characters do you relate to most? Why?

I think I relate most to Prince Boyt because I am slender (like he is) and also a super duper klutz! Honestly, I think you need special skills to trip and bang yourselves into walls more than once like I do! But other than that, Prince Boyt has a tendency to fear the unknown. I do too. I think I fear success just as much as I fear failure. But just like myself, Prince Boyt keeps trying even when things get hard. We both know a new situation is just another place for growth and to gain knowledge. It’s about continuing on the journey even when things get difficult.

Alice in Verse giveaway

Alice in Verse:
The Lost Rhymes of Wonderland
by J.T. Holden
illustrated by Andrew Johnson

Just released: January 11, 2010

My Waiting on Wednesday last week was this book. I am thrrrrilllled to say that Candleshoe Books has agreed to have me host a giveaway for this Alice trrrrrrrrrreat! Want one? Details below...

Description from the amazon:
Have you ever wondered...

Who really stole the Queen's tarts? Whatever did become of the Walrus & the Carpenter after their nefarious jot down the briny beach with the little Oysters? Is there truly any sense to be found in nonsense at all?

Come follow Alice down the rabbit-hole once again as Lewis Carroll's timeless classic is reimagined through the lyrical language of Wonderland...where a Caterpillar dispenses an indelible lesson, a Cat offers safe haven and (fairly) sound advice, and a Hatter and Hare throw a mad tea party before matching wits at the trial of the century!

Limited Hardcover Edition with introduction by the author and over 35 pages of all-new illustrations.

Steampunk Weekly - 03.15.10

Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec
directed by Luc Besson
coming April 2010
a bit of steampunk from France

Well, this movie clip hints at steampunk. Hey, there's a dragon-looking creature. Is he flesh or cyber? Anyhooooo, the word is out that this is a steampunk movie.

The movie will be released across the seas in April. I'm hoping it will reach the U.S. shores too. Otherwise, we will have to wait for the DVD in a year or so. boo-hoo.

Would love a translation of what the man is saying at the end of the clip. Please ;-D

I haven't heard of this story before so I went to the wikipedia. Amazing female character here folks!

Per wikipedia:
Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec (The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Dry-White) is a Franco-Belgian comics adventure series written and illustrated by French comics artist Jacques Tardi.

The adventures, set in Paris in the years before and after World War I, revolve around the protagonist Adèle Blanc-Sec. A cynical heroine, she is initially a novelist of popular fiction, who turns to investigative journalism as her research and subsequent adventures reveal further details of the mystical world of crime.

Themes of the occult, corruption, official incompetence, and the dangers of patriotism suffuse the series. One interesting feature is the hiatus which separates Adèle's first exploits, taking place in 1910s Paris, from later ones, instead set in the post-WWI milieu.

The separation is explained with her having been cryogenically hibernated following a grave injury. The expedient was deemed necessary by Tardi to avoid her entanglement in the First World War. In an interview he declared: "Her feisty nature made it impossible to provide her with a place in the war. She would not have been allowed to fight, and could no more have settled for being a nurse, than she could have remained home rolling bandages".
