First sentence(s):
"You're one of those genius types," said Coach, nudging me with a beefy elbow. "Make yourself useful for once. Say something inspirational."

Someone's been a very bad zombie.

Kate Grable is horrified to find out that the football coach has given the team steroids. Worse yet, the steroids are having an unexpected effect, turning hot gridiron hunks into mindless flesh-eating zombies. No one is safe--not her cute crush Aaron, not her dorky brother, Jonah... not even Kate!

She's got to find an antidote--before her entire high school ends up eating each other.

So Kate, her best girlfriend, Rocky, and Aaron stage a frantic battle to save their town... and stay hormonally human.

PeekAbook:

My two-bits:

Some gross and icky scenes with these zombie creations. But a light zombie read.

The zombies are portrayed in a pre-zombie phase which create some funny scenes.

The main character, Kate, is diverse character (with epilepsy) who turns out to be a kick-ass heroine in this story.

Published: 2015
Publisher: The Toon Studio Press
Genre: Zombies, YA
Hardback: 368 pages
Rating: 5

series:
The Color of Fear
book 2 - tba

First sentence(s):
The first sighting took place at the Kirriemuir Cemetery in Angus, Scotland, on an otherwise unremarkable Tuesday evening.

Unexplainablenews.com is reporting strange phenomena in cemeteries in Scotland, Germany, Italy, and America. Only one individual knows what's happening - and why! This person also knows the one girl who can prevent an unspeakable and imminent catastrophe from taking place. But will she? When Caitlin Fletcher's mom disappeared (or left?) four years ago, Caitlin began suffering from breathless bouts of anxiety. Her new move to London, with her Dad and her brainiac sister, threatens to lead to more situations that will trigger panic. Now, she's having anxiety over the possibility of having anxiety! Caitlin's life takes a turn for the bizarre when she's tricked into climbing down a "rabbit hole", landing in a wondrous fairy tale universe - except it's crawling with savage, starving blood-eyed zombies. But what's scarier - a blood thirsty zombie, a panic attack....or the painful truth?!

PeekAbook:

My two-bits:

You are in for a wild ride with this one ;-)

This fast-paced action adventure tale is set in a zombified world of favorite fairy tale characters that pulls you in and down the hole to Wonderland.

High functioning royal princess zombies accompany the main character, Caitlin, as she navigates a Wonderland adventure.

The usual groaning, grunting and hungry shambling zombies also mingle with "partial" zombies".

The mashup of fairy tales and zombies is so cute. I look forward to more encounters of characters from other fairy tales.

Like all fairy tales, this story also has an underlying message that hits home just right.

Zombie Dolls
for the series are available (here)
how cute is that!

Published: 2011
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Genre: YA, Zombies

Rating: 4

series:
The Forest of Hands and Teeth
The Dead-Tossed Waves
The Dark and Hollow Places

First sentence(s):
The story goes that even after the Return they tried to keep the roller coasters going.

Gabry lives a quiet life, secure in her town next to the sea and behind the Barrier. She's content to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast--home is all she's ever known and all she needs for happiness.
But life after the Return is never safe.

Gabry's mother thought she left her secrets behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, but like the dead in their world, secrets don't stay buried. And now, Gabry's world is crumbling.

In one reckless moment, half of Gabry's generation is dead, the other half imprisoned.

Now Gabry knows only one thing: if she has any hope of a future, she must face the forest of her mother's past.

PeekAbook:

My two-bits:

Zombies are called Mudo. These guys moan and grab and chase (medium speed, i think). But for the most part are in the background of this story.

The focus is on a teen trying to survive during a zombie run world.

There's a love triangle, the typical kind with first loves.

There's parental issues to contend with.

There's a reveal...

And of course, there's avoiding being turned into a mudo.
