Yet another brilliant entry in Kenemore’s zombie canon—Cap’n Hook meets the undead.

Set in the Caribbean of the eighteenth century, the epicenter of piracy, voodoo, and the dark arts, The Code of the Zombie Pirate reveals all the secrets to selecting, customizing, and managing a motley crew of pirates-cum-zombies. Imagine the consequences of pirates who have crossed the line to immortality: the breathtaking lack of respect for life—it’s the ultimate pirate dream! Kenemore advises captions in:

Selecting Zombie Pirates: Fast or slow, chatty or quiet?

Can a zombie hold a cutlass, or is it better off using its teeth? As readers will learn, pirate crews benefit from diversity.

Finding a Vessel Worthy of a Bunch of Dead Guys:

Learn the ins-and-outs of pirate ships. Which ones best suit zombies, with their unique undead benefits and drawbacks?

Flying the Zombie Pirate Flags: Learn how to instill fear with something as simple as a brain and crossbones.

Going Full Zombie: Should the reader—an aspiring Pirate King or Queen—become a member of the walking dead? There are benefits and drawbacks to this, discussed here.

This rollicking guide through the world that zombies and pirates both haunted and hunted will keep Zen of Zombie readers intrigued and win over legions of new fans.

30 color illustrations.

Amusing quote:
We are universally detested. Upon sight, our presence brings cries of alarm. Whenever we show up, people understand that something is very, very wrong.

by Cullen Bunn
Cover art by Mark McLaughlin
Foreword by Jeff Strand

Published: 2010
Genre: Adult Humor, Zombies
Paperback: 85 pages
Rating: 4

Description from publisher's site:
Cullen Bunn entered the World Horror Convention’s Gross-Out Contest four times, and won first place with each. And here they are, collected for the first time in print, uncut and sure to get your bile rising.

But that’s not all…

The Midway County Testicle Festival is underway!

In Cullen’s vomit-inducing novella, Blue has reason to be superstitious of the event’s thirteenth year.

The morning kicks off with a dead body in the field, and the issues escalate from there.

As a new recipe for barbeque testicles is introduced with horrifying results, Blue realizes that there is more afoot than mere food poisoning. With an ancient evil rising from the nearby woods and chaos all around him, will he have the balls to save not only the festival, but the entire world?

* Not recommended for anyone under 18 years of age, or the easily offended.

My two-bits:
In-a-word: testicle terrors

Ewww! LOL! Ewwww! LOL! Ewww. Ewww. Ewwwwww!

I wasn't so sure if I would like this book. It's not a book I would normally pick up. But is was sent courtesy of Skullvines Press for the contest I won at their site last year.

I thought I might get too grossed out and not be able to read it. I did get grossed out, but I zipped through this book despite the unmentionable parts and had a rollicking good time.

The gross out stories were soooo gross I can see how they won top prizes. I used to think sea monkeys were so cute and magical. Cullen has made them sick sick creatures to me now! LOL!

And loved the zombie touch in the novella.

Zombie sighting:
More like voodoo-like zombies appear in the novella.
