The Hidden Trilogy:
Hidden Leaves
book 2 - tba
First sentence(s):
"Shigemasa is coming! Shigemasa is coming!" shouted a panic-stricken farmer into Father Joaquim's quarters.
The first in Curry’s Hidden trilogy, Hidden by the Leaves follows Father Joaquim Martinez, a Jesuit Priest in Japan, as he and his catechists risk their lives to defy a 17th Century Shogun order of execution.
Inspired by real-life events and enriched by the author’s extensive research, this epic tale of good vs. evil is the ultimate historical novel.
Rooted in history and hidden by the leaves. Can Fr. Martinez and his small village stand against an oppressive regime to find freedom through the power of faith?
My two-bits:
After watching the recent Martin Scorsese film, Silence, I found this story fascinating in that it got into other details of what went on during the struggle with Christianity in Japan. It is a good piece of history to know.
Each character encounter questions of faith, endurance and love.
This story follows characters who journey through persecution, torture and death with hope in their hearts.
