I dove into this series without reading the first book. So, the established characters and their backgrounds were ever so slightly referred to. I have mixed feelings because of this. And because there was a such a mix of werewolves, vampires, witches, fae and U.S. military. Throw in conflict amongst all parties with a mystery and you get... a story that leaves you wondering. Mostly I wonder what is the history?

I got a hint of the werewolf background - involving a petri dish??? and there are possibly a Native American Indian connection?

As a stand-a-lone book it works alright if you're into action between the different parties mentioned.

Also, I think if you are already a fan of the series, you will enjoy the continuation of the storyline and like how the characters evolve. Those into the romance side of things will be pleased too.

I am reminded by Mary Ann's comment - the human characters involved in this story are varied in their ethnicity - so you get the people of color mix too. i liked that.
