In a past that never was...

The year is 1869. Earth experiences the close pass of a comet never before seen. In its wake, many of Terra's inhabitants find themselves changed. Among men, prodigies rise in unprecedented numbers, while many ordinary adults suddenly find themselves possessed of preternatural genius. Likewise, non-hominid animals become self-aware and intelligent.

Fast forward to 1875. A young “comet prodigy” from humble beginnings, Ichabod Temperance, has become the world's foremost inventor. He travels to England to deliver his latest brilliant invention to a famous explorer, until Fate intervenes. Meanwhile, a lovely young Bluestocking, Miss Persephone Plumtartt, survives an experimental accident only to find herself imbued with a power she can neither understand nor control, while dark forces and malevolent creatures pursue her, leaving a gruesome wake of death.

Yet, worse is to come. The naïve young inventor and the lovely intellectual find themselves fighting not only to save their own lives, but to prevent the destruction of all life on Earth.

A Matter of Temperance
A World of inTemperance
For the Love of Temperance

My two-bits:
Lots of action scenes with mechanical insect-like creatures and amusing dialogue between a pair of victorian steampunky characters.

Somewhat fun read.

  1. Sounds like the steampunk characters and creatures are what is most fascinating! Looks fun to read!

  2. I enjoyed the intro to this series through your Steampunk Event. Glad this book was a hit.

  3. Thank you for the review. I just read the author's bio on Goodreads. Definitely going to read A Matter of Temperance.

  4. Thank you ladies!
Thank you for reviewing 'Matter' for me, Velvet.
I wonder which version you read though... because this book was in bad shape until January 2014. I wrote it as a blog series with my girl. I then crammed it together into a novel. Unfortunately, I tried to maintain the blog feel of the story, and repeated scenes from two points of view. After getting away from the book for a few months, I realized 'Hey, it's a novel, not a blog, stupid.' So I went back and gave it a major overhaul. I cut it from the hugely ridiculous number of 154 chapters, to the not quite so ridiculous number of 49. It is far more charming, funny and easy to read, now. I did a lot of touch ups with the second book, and was more careful with the third and soon to be released fourth book in the series. (Four in my debut year! And I've never even written a grocery list before.)
Thank you for considering my books.
