Dreaming Books - 7.27.10

Dreaming Books is a new meme I'm starting up on my site to let you know what old, current or upcoming book(s) I'm excited for and dreaming to get someday *sigh*. The books are in keeping with my usual genre favorites - YA, Jane Austen, steampunk, vampires, werewolves and zombiessssss.

Similar to Waiting on Wednesday and On My Wishlist memes already out there. If you have a post for books on your "want list" feel free to send me your link in comments. I'd be interested in taking a peek into what you're dreaming of...

The Best of Everything
by Rona Jaffe

Description from the amazon:
When Rona Jaffe’s superb page-turner was first published in 1958, it changed contemporary fiction forever. Some readers were shocked, but millions more were electrified when they saw themselves reflected in its story of five young employees of a New York publishing company.

Almost sixty years later, The Best of Everything remains touchingly—and sometimes hilariously—true to the personal and professional struggles women face in the city.

There’s Ivy League Caroline, who dreams of graduating from the typing pool to an editor’s office; na├»ve country girl April, who within months of hitting town reinvents herself as the woman every man wants on his arm; and Gregg, the free-spirited actress with a secret yearning for domesticity. Jaffe follows their adventures with intelligence, sympathy, and prose as sharp as a paper cut.

Note: I'm interested in getting this for my Mad Men Reading Challenge

And there's a movie version made released in 1959 and a tv series too (1970):

  1. I'm dreaming of Sparks, the sequel to Ambers by Laura Bickle. It's almost here!

  2. I'm familiar with Rona Jaffe, but have never heard of this particular work - sometimes those 'vintage' novels make for very enjoyable reading, I'd probably enjoy this one, too, Vee :) And LOVE the *dreaming* pix!

Here's one for you: Chickie by Elenore Meherin, pub. 1923/25? is a terrific (& shocking!) book for the Roaring Twenties era in which it was written. If you ever trip across it, I think you'd really enjoy it (check library before they start renovating lol)
